A valuable resource for those researching Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana, before the Civil War. This directory contains a short history of the city, its location, improvements, growth, business and commercial position. I found this history to be a good insight into the Evansville of this era. Churches, libraries, officers of fraternal organizations, city and county officials are listed. The last 79 pages contain business advertisements. Some pages contain full page ads. However, many of them contain two to three business advertisements. All of these add a great deal of information about the availability of goods and services to the residents of this growing city.
