Dugger Cemetery

Saint Jacobs, Madison County, Illinois

Compiled and photographed by

Virginia L. Aldridge

There are many damaged markers in this old cemetery from the cemetery being bush- hogged and the driver not knowing where the markers were. A group has diligently worked to repair markers and piece them back together.

We have visited this cemetery several times between 2004 and 2014 and found the improvements this group has made. They have ordered military markers for those with military service to replace the family markers that were destroyed by the bush hog.

The markers in these photos do not represent the complete burials in this cemetery. Many of the markers are unreadable due to the ravages of time.

The photos were taken between 31 December 2004 and 25 May 2014.

Directions to Dugger Cemetery: Dugger Cemetery is located in Saint Jacobs Township, Madison County, Illinois, 4.9 miles west of the town of Highland. From the town of Highland head west on Broadway and continue onto Lake Road.

The cemetery is down a lane on a farm on the right side of the road, behind the house. There is a Dugger Cemetery sign at the beginning of the lane and in front of the house. You would stay to the right side of the house. There is a small bridge over a creek and the road back to the cemetery goes over the bridge and back to a field.
