TSGS’s 2023 Year End Review

This time of year, I always get really nostalgic. As 2023 draws to a close and 2024 dawns bright, full of endless possibilities, I can’t help but look back on everything that 2023 brought. While I do this for my personal life, I’ve also been looking back on the year TSGS had. So join me as I reflect on TSGS’s 2023 changes, website additions, and accomplishments!

One of the biggest changes to TSGS? The year 2023 meant a new president was sworn in–Kim Smith Van Vorst! Kim has been working with TSGS in various capacities for a number of years, but in 2023 she took over the reins as president and has been diligent about adding her own personal touches to the website. Under Kim’s leadership, welcome letters have been added to the website weekly, along with new polls.

During 2023, there have been plenty of website additions to TSGS, too! Hundreds of documents have been uploaded to the Members Only page, including vital records for Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, along with marriage records for Missouri. Wishing you could take advantage of all TSGS has to offer members? It’s never to late to join us as we share and promote our family heritage!

For just $15 (or $16, if you’re using PayPal), you can become a member and gain exclusive access to members-only perks, like the various birth and death records. You can learn more about becoming a member by heading here (and just a tip–memberships make a great gift for your loved one, or a “self gift” for you!).

For TSGS, 2023 was also a year of incredible presentations! Throughout the year, members and non-members alike got to enjoy hearing speakers discuss on a wide-range of topics. What’s more, speakers came from varied backgrounds to bring everyone riveting, informative, and engaging presentations.

Some additional website offerings.

BIG changes came to the TSGS Home Port page, too! Two new public pages were added, including YouTube Genealogy Channels and Genealogy Podcasts. These new pages, with links to watch genealogical videos and listen to genealogy podcasts, are especially useful to genealogists who learn best through detailed visuals and examples.

What else happened in 2023? I added new content to Kassidy’s Corner every month! The posts were written with every genealogist in mind, from the casual novice to the seasoned professional. Over these last few months, we dove into a lot of different aspects of the genealogical field: everything from writing tips to revamping your genealogy space.

After viewing just a few changes that took place across the TSGS website in 2023, you may be wondering–what’s in store for 2024? Of course we’ll be keeping up with some of our beloved offerings, like new vital records and Kassidy’s Corner posts. But we’re also excited to announce that we’ll be adding a NEW page to TSGS in 2024! More details on this page will be coming in January, but I will say that this new page will be one that everyone can get involved with, members and non-members alike.

Stay tuned, and in the meantime, Keep the History Alive!
